Philadelphia Alley offers one of the moodiest backdrops in Charleston, with historic brick pathways, iron lanterns, stunning greenery, and dramatic textures tucked between downtown buildings. The narrow alley creates an intimate feel that photographs beautifully and gives more privacy than other downtown locations.
Charlestons "South of Broad" neighborhoods are filled with hidden alleyways and stunning garden corners. Wandering through streets like Tradd, Legare, and Church Street reveals some of Charleston’s most romantic photo locations, with wrought-iron gates, pastel homes, and moss-covered details around nearly every corner.
Charleston’s beaches offer a completely different feel from downtown, with soft dunes, sea grass, open shoreline, and golden coastal light that make them perfect for couples photos. Whether you want something playful and relaxed or quiet and romantic, the area has no shortage of beautiful beach locations.
Two of my personal favorites are Lighthouse Inlet and Sullivan’s Island (I have my own personal favorite stations). Lighthouse Inlet has a more natural, untouched feel with wide stretches of sand, coastal grasses, and views of the Morris Island Lighthouse that create a dreamy backdrop, especially at sunset. Sullivan’s Island offers a quieter and more refined beach atmosphere, with soft dunes, scattered palm trees, and peaceful shoreline areas that photograph beautifully in every season, especially at sunrise when the soft light creates an airy and romantic feel.
Cypress Gardens is one of the most unique couples photo locations near Charleston, offering beautiful scenery far beyond the iconic boat area. Admission is $10 per person, and the rowboats have a 45-minute time limit, giving couples plenty of time to explore the blackwater trails beneath the cypress trees. Your photographer can either stay on land capturing photos from the docks and pathways or ride in a separate boat to photograph you throughout the water trails.
Beyond the boats, Cypress Gardens also has beautiful bridges, gazebos, walking paths, and endless greenery that make it easy to create a full gallery with a variety of backdrops all in one location. The mix of towering trees, reflections on the water, and lush scenery gives the entire area a romantic and cinematic feel unlike anywhere else around Charleston.
Full sessions are required to book this location, as we will need at least an hour on site to fully explore the gardens, boat areas, and surrounding scenery.
Hampton Park is one of the most beautiful garden-style locations in Charleston, especially during the months of March and April when the azaleas are in full bloom. The park is filled with massive old oak trees draped in Spanish moss, creating a soft and romantic atmosphere throughout every season.
The variety of scenery makes Hampton Park perfect for full galleries, with a peaceful pond, dreamy flower landscapes, a charming gazebo, and a beautiful rose garden and pavilion area all within walking distance. The combination of greenery, blooms, and open pathways gives the park a timeless Charleston feel while still being quieter and less crowded than many downtown locations.
Hampton Park is a huge photo location, so while you should expect to see multiple groups having photos taken throughout the park, there is still plenty of space to spread out and find quieter areas for your session.
Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place are two of Charleston’s most well-known garden venues, both located in West Ashley along Ashley River Road. Each location offers a completely different atmosphere for couples photos while still showcasing the classic Lowcountry beauty Charleston is known for.
Magnolia Plantation has a more natural and romantic feel, with winding garden paths, moss-covered oak trees, bridges, swamp views, and seasonal blooms throughout the property. The gardens feel wild and dreamy, making it one of the best locations for couples wanting a softer, storybook-style gallery. Photography sessions require a separate photography fee of $250, which includes access for up to four guests including your photographer. General admission is also required, with adult tickets currently starting around $32 per person.
Middleton Place has a more formal and elegant look, featuring perfectly landscaped gardens, symmetrical pathways, reflecting ponds, and historic architecture. The property feels timeless and upscale, especially for couples wanting a refined editorial-style session with classic Charleston scenery. General admission is currently around $35 per adult, and professional photography requires an additional photography permit fee through Middleton Place costing $175.
